I created this poster for a graphic design class. It's a fake poster for a PBS documentary on the emergence of public sexual education in America.

Sex-Ed by ~boundsparrow is a nice, easy way to look at sex education. I mean really, what's a better representation of sex than a light socket and a lightbulb? ( Suggested by nmichelle and Featured by bornghost )

The design is ice but it is transphobic because no, all boys do not have a penis and all women does not have a vagina.

A phobia is a irrational fear of something. If a person do not talk about something, it doesn't mean that this person is afraid of it. Thus, you assumed that this person was transPHOBIC just because it didn't mention every possible option on his poster. It's a poster, not a thesis. The designer didn't had a lot of space available so he choose to develop on a specific subject.

See, for example, if I talk about african culture, it doesn't mean that I'm "asiaphobic". It just mean that I, as a person, decided to talk specifically about the african culture. It does not mean that I dont like arabic culture, or european culture. It just mean that I didn't choose to talk about them. Or maybe I didn't event thought that I could. Maybe it just didn't came to my mind that my audience would've liked to hear my give a speech on mayan culture.

Sometime it's nice to assume that peoples intentions are not bad. Not every human being is an asshole.

Have a nice day,
Sincerly, Puxin.

Yeah the word phobia does mean fear, but if you're transphobic you're not scared of trans people, you're just an asshole. The word transphobia means a dislike or prejudice against trans people. This poster is not trans-inclusive, and while you aren't affected by it, it's likely that trans people that see it might be. Assuming that all men have penises and all women have vaginas is transphobic, and its not your call as a cis person to decide what is and what isn't transphobic.

But I did not say the poster was transphobic, I meant to agree with the original commenter that this poster is cool, or how they put it 'ice' but it is inaccurate because 'boys have a penis' 'girls have a vagina' are absolute statements as if there is nothing else.

That was all I meant to agree with, nothing against the art or the author but I do support a comment that brings up other possibilities, just so that people see those possibilities.

A nice day to you as well,

WOW NO. Transgendered people exist too. Also people who are NEITHER, BOTH, or SOMETHING ELSE. I'm more of a woman than most men, but that doesn't mean I have a vagina.

As someone who is trangender I will say that for all the rather ignorant people commenting that this paticular ideas of packaging gender and sex into a nice little package has work to the detriment of the trangender individual. Not all boys have a penis, and not all girls have a vagina. Teaching otherwise not only confuses a transgender child and makes them feel awkward and wrong, but it also serves as an arguement against them later in life. Gender identity issues should be taught along side sex education to help inform children of things which otherwise they would likely not encounter until later in life, and often respond poorly to.

As for any DNA arguement... Sometimes mutations along the SRY gene in the Y chromosome causes developmental issues... such as a lack proper hormones being release in utereo, incorrect brain development, and other physically attributable traits which are not able to be detected by sight. Some XY males are completely androgen insensitive and develop completely female except for working reproductive organs. There is a myriad of different genetic, epigenetic and biological factors which can lead to issues as transgender.

NOW to comment on the art. Its cute, simple, and explains its self well, of course with the helping typography. Sexual education was, has been, and is likely to continue to be taught that way. Maybe when some of you have kids you can fill in the blanks the public education system fails to.

I don't see what people are getting their knickers in a twist over..

Males are meant to (Emphasis on "meant to") have male reproductive organs, and females are meant to (Again, emphasis on the "meant to") have female reproductive organs. That's how humans are meant to work, and that's how the majority are. Being transgender is when a female has male reproductive organs and vise versa, that's not meant to happen which is why people have the opportunity to get it sorted out.

If it wasn't like that, and our gender wasn't 'meant to' match our sex, then transgender wouldn't be a thing. I'm in no way saying that transgender people shouldn't exist, or saying that their problems don't matter, and I understand how terrible it is and how it feels to be in that situation, but..

Really? People seem to be looking for something to bitch about. This is a poster talking about the sort of stuff that you would learn in a science class, not in social studies. If this wast a poster talking about genitals in general, and not related to sex ed at all, then yeah, it would be sort of shitty of them to not mention trangenders, nonbinaries, and whatever else there is, but it isn't.

It would be like a poster saying "Ferris wheels are designed to stop mid way" because sometimes they malfunction and do that, as an educational poster. I'm not equating Ferris wheels to trans people, I just couldn't think of a different example.

Even though we now have the technology to change our outward appearance to better fit what we believe we look like- we are not changing our biological structure. I have nothing against people who go through gender reassignment, some of my very close friends have gone through it and more power to them if it finally makes them feel comfortable in their own body. I know I would personally hate to be trapped in a body that I thought wasn't me. Perhaps in the future, we will be able to find a way to change DNA coding, but as it is, even if a male undergoes the process of becoming a female or vise versa, their DNA will always indicate them as a male because they cannot get rid of their XY or XX chromosome. Biologically speaking, what you identify as doesn't matter in the determination of gender, the chromosome composition matters. This also goes to the people who don't prescribe to one gender or the other- it doesn't suddenly make them devoid of their chromosomes.

And a lot of people hate to think of that fact and its fine to ignore it but it's wrong to try and make other people guilty for not thinking the same PC things.

But to the core of this- I think it's wrong to point a finger and shout at a fake poster just because of tender feelings.

As a piece, it great because it is simple, streamlined, and cute.
